Product Introduction:
Pegstim 6mg contains Pegfilgrastim, a pegylated form of filgrastim, which stimulates the bone marrow to produce more neutrophils. Administered once per chemotherapy cycle, it provides effective and convenient protection against chemotherapy-induced neutropenia and its complications.

Uses:
Pegstim 6mg is used to:
  1. Prevent febrile neutropenia in chemotherapy patients
  2. Reduce risk of infection due to low white blood cells
  3. Support bone marrow recovery post chemotherapy
  4. Aid in stem cell mobilization in transplant procedures (off-label)
  5. Prevent complications of radiation exposure (emergency use)
  6. Improve tolerance to dose-dense chemotherapy regimens

Storage Instructions:
  1. Store at 2°C to 8°C (Refrigerated)
  2. Keep in original packaging to protect from light
  3. Do not freeze or shake
  4. Allow to reach room temperature before administration
  5. Keep out of reach of children

How It Works (Mechanism of Action):
Pegfilgrastim binds to G-CSF receptors on bone marrow precursor cells, stimulating the production and release of neutrophils into the bloodstream. The pegylation allows for longer duration in the body, providing prolonged stimulation with a single dose per cycle.

Side Effects:
Common side effects:
  1. Bone pain
  2. Headache
  3. Nausea
  4. Fatigue
  5. Injection site redness or swelling
Severe side effects (rare):
  1. Splenic rupture (sudden left upper abdominal pain)
  2. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
  3. Serious allergic reactions
  4. Leukocytosis (very high white blood cell count)
  5. Capillary leak syndrome (rare and life-threatening)

Dosage (Typical Recommended Dose):
  1. 6 mg subcutaneously, administered once per chemotherapy cycle
  2. Administered at least 24 hours after chemotherapy
  3. One injection is typically sufficient for a full cycle

Method of Administration:
  1. Administer via subcutaneous injection
  2. Common injection sites: upper arm, thigh, or abdomen
  3. Should be given by a healthcare provider or trained caregiver
  4. Let the prefilled syringe reach room temperature before use

Precautions:
  1. Monitor for signs of spleen issues and respiratory distress
  2. Regular complete blood counts (CBC) are recommended
  3. Use caution in patients with sickle cell disease
  4. Not recommended in pregnancy or lactation unless necessary
  5. Avoid chemo administration within 14 days of Pegstim

Drug Interactions:
  1. No major drug interactions, but should not be given with chemotherapy drugs concurrently
  2. Avoid using other G-CSF agents simultaneously
  3. No interactions with common supportive medications (e.g., painkillers)

Allergies:
  1. May cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis
  2. Symptoms include: rash, swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing
  3. Immediate medical attention required if allergic symptoms appear

Overdose Information:
  1. Overdose may lead to excessive white blood cell production
  2. Symptoms may include bone pain, flu-like symptoms, spleen enlargement
  3. No specific antidote – provide supportive care and monitor blood counts

Missed Dose Instructions:
  1. If a dose is missed, contact your doctor immediately
  2. Do not take a second dose without medical advice
  3. Pegstim is usually given once per chemotherapy cycle

Additional Notes:
  1. Bone pain can be managed with acetaminophen or NSAIDs
  2. Patients should be educated about signs of infection or spleen issues
  3. Syringes should be disposed of in a sharps container
  4. Avoid grapefruit or other CYP3A4 affecting foods if taking additional medications
  5. Pegstim should be part of a comprehensive chemotherapy support plan
